The other day I was sent some ProNourish™ drinks to review. I was excited to try these drinks low in FODMAPs that are specifically designed with ingredients carefully selected for people with digestive sensitivities. Both my son and I have digestive issues and have to be careful about certain ingredients. We have a hard time finding protein drinks and supplements that agree with our stomachs. I have read some about FODMAPs (Fermentable Oligosaccharides, Disaccharides, Monosaccharides And Polyols) recently. They are specific types of short-chain carbohydrates that can be poorly absorbed and cause digestive discomfort. Research has shown that low FODMAP diets can help reduce digestive discomfort symptoms. In fact, one study showed that symptoms were reduced in as much as 70% of participants on diets low in FODMAPs.
These low FODMAP ProNourish™ drinks have 15 g of protein, 3g of fiber and only 6g of sugars plus they are gluten free, suitable for lactose intolerance (but not for those that suffer with galctosemia), and do not contain high fructose corn syrup or sugar alcohols. My son is on a gluten-free diet now and I was happy to find out that ProNourish™ is gluten-free and also suitable for those with lactose intolerance. We started out trying the strawberry banana drink in the morning before our walk the other day. We both liked the flavor and it was enough to keep me satisfied until lunch time.
Today, I had the vanilla drink after my workout. Again, it kept me satisfied until lunchtime. I don’t usually like to eat a lot after a workout. I liked the fact that ProNourish™ was not too filling, but still had a good amount of protein plus essential vitamins and minerals. At just 8 ounces, these ProNourish™ drinks would be great as a snack or mini-meal on the go.
I try to watch my sugar intake as well. ProNourish™ drinks only have 6 grams of sugar and are sweetened with a small amount of sucralose. The website also has some great information for those following low FODMAP diets. There are lots of recipes and details about FODMAPs and digestive sensitivities. I was looking through some of the recipes and am looking forward to trying the Hash Brown Egg Nests, Banana Bread Brownies and Chewy Peanut Butter Cookies.
