One of the best things about having challah in the house is having leftover challah.  What do you do with leftover challah?  Make challah french toast, of course!

Recently, I shared The Best Challah Recipe to Make Bubbie Proud – Shabbat Jewish Braided Sweet Bread.

This morning, I made a recipe for some yummy french toast with the leftover challah.

Leftover Challah = Wonderful Challah French Toast

Challah Bread

Here’s a step-by-step recipe for Challah French Toast using leftover homemade challah:

Ingredients To Make Challah French Toast

  1. Leftover homemade challah bread (6 slices)
  2. 1 large egg
  3. 1/4 cup milk
  4. 1/2 tsp cinnamon
  5. 1 tsp vanilla extract
  6. Butter or oil for the pan
  7. Optional: Powdered sugar, maple syrup, and fresh fruits for serving

How To Make Challah French Toast

  1. Prepare the egg mixture: In a wide shallow bowl, whisk together the egg, milk, cinnamon, and vanilla extract until well combined.
  2. Soak the challah slices: Take your leftover challah slices and dip each slice into the egg mixture, making sure both sides are well coated. Let the bread soak for about 15-20 seconds on each side.
  3. Heat the pan: While your bread is soaking, heat a flat pan over medium heat. Add a little butter or oil to prevent the toast from sticking.
  4. Cook the French toast: Once the pan is hot, add your soaked challah slices. Cook each side for 2-3 minutes or until they turn golden brown. Be sure to flip the bread slices only once to retain their fluffy texture.
  5. Serve: Place your cooked French toast on a plate. If desired, sprinkle with powdered sugar, drizzle with maple syrup, and top with fresh fruits. Enjoy your delicious homemade Challah French Toast!

Remember, the key to excellent French toast is to allow the bread to soak up the egg mixture properly. This ensures that you get a perfect custardy texture in every bite. Happy cooking!
