I try to have a healthy diet. I limit fried foods and eat lots of fruits and vegetables, however, I know my diet lacks good fats. As part of this post, I learned more about the health benefits of avocados and got to try some new recipes.
Avocados contain naturally good monounsaturated fat and are cholesterol free. Naturally good fats are an important part of a healthy diet. Avocados, which are a fruit although most people think of them as a vegetable, contain less than one gram of sugar per 1-ounce, the least amount of sugar per serving of any other fresh fruit. They are one of the only fruits with “good fat”.
When cooking or preparing meals you can use avocados as a substitute for bad fats, and they make a great dairy substitute. So versatile, fresh avocados can be used in any meal or dish. They can be used as a recipe substitute for bad fats, a way to add naturally good fats, a nutrient-dense fruit to add nutrient value, and as a vegan or vegetarian possible alternative to dairy products. For example, you can spread avocados on bread, blend them into smoothies, use in baked goods, or toss them into salads.
Hass Avocado Party Fun
Hass Avocado sent me a goodie box filled with avocado recipes and tee shirts. So of course, I had a party to sample some new recipes and hand out the fun shirts.
I invited some friends and family over for the avocado party. I chose to make the Agua Fresca de Aguacate, Vegan Avocado Chia Pudding, and Avocado and Coconut Ice Pops.
All of the recipes I chose were pretty easy to make. The agua fresca included honeydew, avocado, water, lime, and salt. That’s it! The avocado pudding also only took a few minutes to make in the blender. In order to be sure the ice pops were ready, I made them the day before. The prep time for the ice pops was about 5 minutes.
.
We had a good time trying the different recipes. The favorite was the Agua Fresca. It had a cool, refreshing taste. Those that were not avocado fans before even liked this recipe!
If you want to try any of these recipes or more then head over to the Hass Avocado website.
All the good you can eat! Crush your fruit + veg goals with high-quality, low-maintenance, really good food—built on organic ingredients.
Avocado Tips and How-Tos
Before preparing for my party, I had no idea how to pick out avocados. Luckily, Hass Avocado has a ton of avocado tips and information on their site. For example, learn how to select the perfect avocado. There are also tips on cutting or slicing avocados and preventing them from browning.
