2020 has seen unemployment skyrocket. The pandemic was entirely unprecedented and has brought many businesses to their knees.
Many people have lost their jobs because the companies they’ve worked for have collapsed. People have lost their jobs because they’ve been made redundant.
If you’re looking for a job right now, you’re definitely not alone.
If you’ve found that your field of specialism won’t be recruiting for a while, you may be looking for a new career path. This can be daunting, but it can be exciting at the same time.
Think of the opportunity for success and progression! You may find yourself in a position you’re truly passionate about and wouldn’t have pursued before. Here are some tips and tricks that can help you to secure the job of your dreams!
How to Find a New Career
Know What Role You Want
The first thing you need to do is decide what kind of position you’d be interested in pursuing. There are so many different job roles out there, so no matter what your personal tastes and preferences are, there’s bound to be a job you’ll find enjoyable. You don’t necessarily have to stick with what you’ve been doing so far. Now could be a good time for a positive change!
Know Where You Want to Be Based
Of course, you need to have a good idea of where you want to be based when you’re looking for a job too. If you want to be based in a specific location, you’ll need to make sure that the job you’re looking for has roles in that area.
If not, you need to decide whether you’re willing to move. For example, if you want to be a marine biologist, it’s highly likely that you’ll need to live near the sea! If you’re not willing to relocate to a seaside town, you may have to consider a different career path.
Consider Gaining Qualifications
Some job roles have essential qualifications that you definitely need to land the position. If this is the case with the job you’re looking at, you may have to head back to education or training before applying. This will give you a genuine shot of landing the role.
Research the role and see what employers are looking for to qualify you for the role. Question whether you’re committed enough to landing the position to genuinely undertake all of the training necessary. For example, if you want to be a doctor, you’re going to have to go to medical school for six or seven years, then you’ll have to train and gain experience. Is this something you’re willing to do? If yes, go ahead. If not, consider other roles instead.
Get Relevant Insurances
Some jobs require specific insurances to take you on board. Take a look at Simply Business for professional liability insurance to get the ball rolling.
Keep an Eye on Job Boards
Once you’re all set to go, keep checking in on job boards regularly. Apply to any position that seems a good match and prepare yourself for the interview process!
Sure, finding the job of your dreams isn’t likely to be quick and easy. But you can get there! Hopefully, the above advice can help a little!
