This is a collaborative post by Ellie Jo about improving your smile.
We all have our little rituals when it comes to getting ready for a big night. Whether it’s a date, an important work dinner, a family obligation or a night out on the town with friends, we’ve all got our list of things we do to make ourselves look our very best. Shower, hair grooming/face grooming, makeup, fragrance, picking the best outfit, and…teeth? We all brush our teeth and maybe take a swig of minty mouthwash before heading out the door, but does your smile leave you feeling less than your best? Could you be doing more?
If so, you’re not alone. So many folks, young and old, are self-conscious about their smile. Whether it’s due to slight discoloration, general wear and tear, slight damage like a chipped tooth or something more major, there are things you can do to improve the overall appearance and functionality of your smile without extensive cosmetic work, so you can go out with confidence, flashing that big, beautiful smile for all to see!
With so many products on the market, it’s no surprise that teeth care and appearance is a huge money draw, and it can be hard to know where to begin. Of course, you don’t want to spend hundreds on flashy products that don’t work, or worse, can actually harm your teeth further. Always consult with your dentist before purchasing any product you’re unsure about, especially if it’s making medical claims, and do your research before trying any product. when it comes to teeth whitening products, fancy brushes and mouthwashes, and on-trend products containing things like charcoal, you’re really spoiled for choice. It’s best to be diligent and take the time to look into the products you’re considering, no matter if they’re an over the counter remedy or something more extensive.
How to Improve Your Smile
Options for Veneers
One trend making waves lately are clip-on, or snap-on veneers. Have you heard of them? They’re a pretty nifty product, actually – but to understand how they work, and how much more convenience/affordable they are, it’s best to first understand what traditional veneers are.
Traditional veneers are thin pieces of porcelain that fit permanently over your teeth. Usually, these are applied to your teeth in a dentist’s office, and because of the material involved and how labor-intensive they are, they can be incredibly costly (not to mention time consuming; sometimes having veneers put on your teeth can take more than one visit). Veneers are usually permanent; once you’ve got them applied, it’s hard to go back. Despite the time and cost, veneers are very popular (pretty much every Hollywood celebrity has veneers, it seems!). Why? Because they look really, really good.
Not everyone can afford expensive, fancy veneers, though. And who has the time? Finally, a lower-cost version of veneers have arrived on the market: snap-on veneers! These veneers function and look much like the original porcelain, but they are so much easier to apply, not to mention much more affordable. Some snap-on veneers will require a dentist’s visit, but all it takes is a quick assessment of your teeth; the dentist will take a quick mold, then send it off to the lab to fashion your custom veneers. Once they arrive, you’ll pick them up and you’re good to go!
Even better: some companies like instasmile have now begun to offer snap-on veneers that require no dentist’s visit. You just take an impression of your own teeth, send it in, and your custom-made snap-on veneers will be sent to you! Pop them on, and you’re good to go.
Snap-on veneers are exactly how they sound – you just snap them in place and that is the extent of the application! Because they are custom-fitted to your own mouth mold, they fit right over your teeth and look completely natural. You can take them off easily at any time, without having to go back and forth to the dentist every time you need to adjust or remove them. They have perks that regular veneers don’t – they’re durable, which means you can eat all sorts of foods that regular veneers can’t handle. Also, snap-on veneers can be made for just one or fewer teeth than regular veneers; they are much more customizable than the regular version. Best of all, snap-on veneers cost a fraction of the cost of regular veneers, which can run into thousands of dollars. And because they easily come off, you can test them out and decide if veneers are something you really want! If not, just remove them!
Why Choose Veneers
Veneers are a great idea for those with a less-than-ideal smile that don’t want to spend thousands of dollars on invasive dental procedures, some of which can be painful and unnecessary. Why bother with crowns and caps if you don’t have to? Veneers look natural and polished, and will give you the confidence you need to put your best smile forward!
Whether or not you decide to get veneers, other forms of mouth/teeth care are extremely important (and if you do decide to get veneers, you want to take care of those beautiful babies!). Taking the time to carefully brush your teeth (don’t forget your tongue), floss, use a good mouthwash, and visiting the dentist regularly for cleanings is so important. Other good tips for dental care: don’t eat too many sticky/crunchy sweets, stay hydrated by drinking lots of water, eat a balanced diet, especially leafy greens, and take a multivitamin with added calcium and vitamin D. And remember: if you’re in pain, don’t ignore – get thee to a dentist as soon as you can! Avoiding a visit to the dentist now can result in costly and painful visits later. Don’t put it off!
If you follow these tips for great mouth and teeth care and choose to invest in some of the great products on the market these days, such as snap-on veneers, you’re guaranteed to put your very best smile forward! Go ahead and grin; you look great!
