How To Make Your House Feel More Like a Home; Woman with blanket and coffee cup with candles burning in a home

This is a contributed post from Ellie Jo.

When you move into a new place, it can take a while for it to feel like home, especially if it is a new build that doesn’t have a lot of character.

The thing is, when your home doesn’t actually feel very like home, it can be difficult to really relax and settle in, so the sooner you can make it feel a bit cozier, the better.

With that in mind, we’ve put together a few tips to help you make your house feel more life home right now.

Fix Any Problems

The first thing you are going to want to do if you want your house to feel more like a home is to get rid of any problems, whether that means fixing peeling paint or cracked windows or calling in mosquito control to get rid of a pest problem. Once you have fixed everything you sn, your house will state to feel more like a home and less like a series of projects, which means it will be far easier for you to relax.

Add Your Art

A really simple way to make your house feel cozy is by hanging pictures of your loved ones and your favorite artworks too, on the walls. When you are surrounded by the people you care about most, it is hard not to feel all warm and cozy, and hanging pictures is a lot less time-consuming than completely overhauling the decor.

Harness The Power Of Plants And Flowers

Plants and flowers are very powerful when it comes to home decor. They stop a house from feeling cold and clinical and add a touch of natural warmth, as well as a burst of color into the place. Not only that but they can also purify the air, so if you’re moving into a new home and you don’t like the vibe or there’s a weird smell, they can really help to change that.

Simple Soft Furnishings

Soft furnishings like rugs, foam cushions, blankets, and throws might be really simple, but they can really soften up a room and transform the coldest space into a cozy retreat where you can spend endless hours snuggled up reading a book, chatting with good friends, or binging your favorite Netflix shows.

Light A Candle

Candles are great for transforming the feel of a space because they add soft, romantic lighting which makes any home seem more intimate and inviting. Choose one on your favorite scent, whether that be a cinnamon, lemon, or rose and your home really will feel as welcoming as can be.

Deep Clean

If you have just moved into a house that used to be owned by someone else, deep cleaning it using your favorite cleaning products, air fresheners, and so on, can make it have the smell that you associate with home most, and of course, a clean home is a much more enjoyable home too.

As you can see making your house feel more like home is a pretty simple task, so there is no reason not to get started right now. Enjoy your home!
