This is a collaborative post by Ellie Jo about stress-free relocating on a moment’s notice.

Stress-Free Relocating On A Moment's Notice

There are a million reasons why you may want/need to move on a moment’s notice. Okay, maybe not millions of reasons but certainly four or five. You might have gotten an irresistible job offer in another state or maybe you’re struggling with this or that and just want to escape to somewhere new or you’ve got kids and know that a good neighborhood is everything. Whatever it is, moving on short-notice isn’t exactly the easiest thing to do (or the least-stressful), which is why you need to know how to go about it.

Stress-Free Relocating On A Moment’s Notice

Luckily for you, we’ve pulled together a list of simple steps that will make a no-notice move a whole bunch easier.

  1. Wrap Your Head Around The Basics

The first thing you should be doing when it comes to moving is properly assessing everything that is required of you. We know this sounds all too calm when the madness of a fast-move has smashed into your life, but it’s that one piece of advice that will make sure everything else runs smoothly. It’s about confirming the fundamental details and doing the essential things. Know where you’re going to move into at the other end, approach companies that say “we buy houses fast”, see how much leeway there is on your new jobs start date, speak to real estate agents at your new destination and get that fundamental groundwork in place. The details can wait. For now, just get the basics done.

  1. Pre-Packing Is A Saviour

Just because you haven’t confirmed all the nitty-gritty details, signed all the paperwork or figured out exactly how you are going to get from A to B does not mean you can’t start packing some bits and bobs away. In fact, we beg you start some sort of preliminary packing as early as you can so that you don’t get slapped by the stressful-stick. Pick the least commonly used rooms and start packing a box or two a day. Then, once you know exactly when you’re going, start packing furiously.

  1. The Early Reservation Catches The Van

It doesn’t matter what time of year you’re suddenly packing up and moving somewhere new, removals companies seem to be booked well in advance (especially in the summer months). That’s why we recommend you call a bunch of them the moment you have a date, even a rough one, to confirm they can make your life that much easier. The problem will be how quickly you need to go, which is why it could be easier to just book a van, call up your friends and rock the DIY route.

  1. Recruit Your Friends

At numerous points during your childhood, you will have heard that many hands make light work, usually from your mom. Well, she wasn’t lying. Many hands do make light work, which is why you need to recruit your friends the moment you are sure you are heading somewhere new. T could just be one or two mates or it could be an army of 300 – whatever it is, you’ll find your stress levels hit rock bottom. Just make sure you reward them with pizza and wine at the end of each session.
