This is a collaborative post by Isobel with divorce tips.
Divorce is never an easy thing for anyone involved, the respective couple, any kids, even other family members. Sometimes divorce can go smoothly without even having to think about it.
Most partners split up amicably and can even remain friends afterward. This is a good approach to take, particularly if children are involved.
No matter how much you dislike your partner, if they are the father or mother of your child, you should try and get along, for your children’s sake.
But what do you do when you have a partner who isn’t willing to play ball, and instead is making things incredibly difficult for you? If you find that they don’t want to split up with you, then you need to find a way to talk to them about it.
If they don’t want to talk to you or you are unable to find them (e.g. they may have left the country), then there are a few things that you can do to help this unfortunate situation.
Tips for a Smooth Divorce
Try and Talk to Your Partner First
Just because you have fallen out of love with your partner, does not mean that they have as well. They might still love you, which means that they will find it harder to accept that you want to divorce.
You might be questioning your marriage. Maybe now is the time to decide if you should stay or if you should go. Divorce should never be your first answer to relationship issues. Being in a relationship takes time and you need to see if you can mend the broken pieces first.
If there is no solution to your failing marriage, then it’s time to talk about divorce. However, it’s important that you can talk about this calmly, particularly if children are involved. If you become hot-headed, then this might make a co-parenting relationship tough in the future.
Obviously telling your partner that you want a divorce is difficult, but you can do a few things, like picking the right location, not blaming them, and not talking in a hopeful manner that your marriage can be saved. You don’t want to create false hope.
Hire a Process Server
If you have been able to talk to your partner about getting a divorce, hopefully, they will behave amicably. Then you can get it all sorted without a problem. However, more often than not, some people don’t want to get a divorce for some reason or another.
When this happens, they might decide to avoid signing the divorce papers, which can be a huge pain for you. If they do not acknowledge the divorce papers, then this is when things get tricky.
However, it’s not the end of the world, as you can just hire someone like these process servers Denver to help you get the divorce papers to them. A professional process server is someone who can deliver the papers in a court case.
They are trained to deal with difficult people and can help find people who don’t want to be found. They know what can and can’t be done, so at least you know that you’ll be following the law. This is just a nice quick and easy way to get things sorted, particularly when people are being difficult.
Sit Back and Wait
If you do decide to use a process server, then you can sit back and wait as they’ll get the job done for you. All that you will have to do is give them a description of your partner, and where they live/work. This will help them in delivering the papers to them. Obviously, if you don’t know where they live (e.g. you’ve been separated for a while, but never officially divorced), then they can help locate them for you.
All that you will have to do is give them the last address that you can remember. Hopefully, they’ll be able to find them for you. Once they have been able to find them for you, they should be able to get the papers signed. Then you can take the next step in court.
Although you might have to wait a bit for this to happen, this can certainly make your life a lot easier. This means that you won’t have to worry about things too much. Divorce is never an easy subject though, just don’t let it ruin your life or your relationship (with your ex-partner, children, and other family members).
