I opened the book, and looked at the table of contents

Nowhere did it say that a trait of a highly effective person was to "read this book"

I gave the book back.

I've always looked at that story sadly, that I was way too naive and overly confident.

But last year I retired at 43. So maybe there is something to my point.

Highly effective people close books and do something.
