Best Careers for Stability

You may be tempted (and encouraged) to “follow your dreams,” but the reality is always more complicated than that. Turning your passion into a job sounds great in theory, sure. Still, if this passion-slash-job isn’t in high demand, you may end up wasting your time and money on a career choice that won’t pay off.

You have many choices to make in life. Let’s help you narrow your options down to these ten careers with solid job security.

  1. Software Developer
  • Median salary: $110,140
  • Projected number of jobs increase: 409,500 (by 2030)
  • Education required: Bachelor’s

There’s a good reason why software development seems to be such a lucrative opportunity. Tech is the fastest-growing industry around the world, and the median salary outperforms many other occupations. So, if tech is your cup of tea, becoming a developer might be ideal.

The field itself is a vast one. For one, there are several dozen programming languages you can specialize in. The domains vary from database management and game development to cybersecurity and mobile app development.

  1. School Teacher
  • Median salary: $60,940 (elementary school), $60,810 (middle school), $62,870 (high school)
  • Projected number of jobs increase: 101,700 (elementary school), 44,800 (middle school), 78,200 (high school) by 2030
  • Education required: Bachelor’s

You know what they say: children are the future. And it’s the teachers’ job to ensure that kids grow up to be productive members of society.

As a teacher, you’d be responsible not just for transferring knowledge and skills to your students. You’ll also help shape their personality and identity and recognize their strengths and weaknesses. And, of course, you’d have to communicate with parents about their children’s progress.

  1. Accountant
  • Median salary: $73,560
  • Projected number of jobs increase: 96,000 (by 2030)
  • Education required: Bachelor’s

As long as there are revenues and taxes, accountants will remain in demand. After all, they’re the ones keeping track of the financial well-being of an individual or business. They’re also there to maintain records and ensure that everything’s done according to law.

Of course, this occupation isn’t for everyone. You’ll have to know your way around numbers, be organized and detail-oriented, and communicate effectively. But if that’s about you, you can count on decent upward mobility and earning potential.

  1. Registered Nurse
  • Median salary: $75,330
  • Projected number of jobs increase: 276,800 (by 2030)
  • Education required: Bachelor’s

As long as there are humans on this planet, they’ll need healthcare professionals. But not every intervention or procedure requires a physician to come in. This is why hospitals and private practices alike need nurses.

These professionals monitor patients’ conditions, perform a wide range of procedures, and often take care of medical documentation. Nurses typically choose to specialize in a particular domain, like cancer treatment or dermatology.

  1. Physician
  • Median salary: $208,000
  • Projected number of jobs increase: 18,700 (by 2030)
  • Education required: Doctorate

Physicians are primary care doctors that you visit when you have most health concerns – or just need an annual checkup. That’s why there’s hardly any job with more security than the physician’s one. Yet, the unemployment rate among physicians is just 0.7%!

That said, the path toward becoming a physician is a rigorous and demanding one. First, you need a doctorate to launch your career, which takes four years to complete. Then, you have to finish the residence program and obtain a license from the state. But in the end, it pays off!

  1. Market Research Analyst
  • Median salary: $65,810
  • Projected number of jobs increase: 163,600 (by 2030)
  • Education required: Bachelor’s

When a company wants to launch a new product or enter a new market, they need a market research analyst. This person is key to the company’s success: they paint a data-driven portrait of their target consumer and pinpoint how to convince them to buy the product.

Since customers are integral to any business’s bottom line, this career is among the fastest-growing ones. The employment growth for this occupation is estimated to reach 22.1% between 2020 and 2030.

  1. Management Analyst
  • Median salary: $87,660
  • Projected number of jobs increase: 124,400 (by 2030)
  • Education required: Bachelor’s

When a company wants its team to work like clockwork, they bring a management analyst into the fold. This person analyzes how the company works and proposes changes that would make internal processes more efficient. That, in its turn, boosts the revenues and/or reduces costs.

This occupation is expected to bloom by 2030. The main reason? More and more companies realize they need a fresh set of eyes to improve their efficiency.

  1. Logistician
  • Median salary: $76,270
  • Projected number of jobs increase: 56,400 (by 2030)
  • Education required: Bachelor’s

Whenever there is something to be delivered to point B, logisticians get to work. They make sure everything finds its way to the final destination on time and as efficiently as possible. They’re also responsible for keeping the logistics costs to a minimum.

Logisticians are needed in nearly every industry imaginable. They can work for the government or the private sector alike. If shipping, warehousing, distribution, or delivery is involved, a logistician will be working behind the scenes.

  1. Web Developer
  • Median salary: $77,200
  • Projected number of jobs increase: 25,500 (by 2030)
  • Education required: Bachelor’s

This occupation might not seem to be as lucrative as a software developer, but it’s still worth your attention. The unemployment rate is lower than the national average (3%), for one. Plus, companies of any kind continue to need websites to do their business.

Some web developers create the websites that you see when you open any URL. Others work in the back-end domain: they ensure that servers powering those websites run smoothly.

  1. Police Officer
  • Median salary: $65,540
  • Projected number of jobs increase: 48,600 (by 2030)
  • Education required: high school

If you choose this career, you’d be responding to incident reports and going on patrols. But contrary to what TV shows and movies would like you to believe, being a patrol officer means a lot of paperwork and sitting behind a desk, too.

Although it’s a stressful job with a somewhat poor work-life balance, it can be a rewarding one, too. If you want to “serve and protect,” this job can be your calling. Plus, as a cherry on top, the unemployment rate among patrol officers is a mere 0.8%!

Final Word

Before you settle on your future career, remember: job security, while important, isn’t the only thing you should consider. What good would a stable job do if you hate every working day for years on end?

So, think about your interests and what brings you joy in life before making a decision. Would you enjoy a communication-driven occupation? Would you prefer a more introverted one? Are you a tech person? Or you’d prefer to work in a more creative field?

If possible, get a grasp of what a regular working day in this or that profession is like. Talk to someone who’s already working in the field. When studying, if you need an expert to help choose the best paper writer at WritePaper. We discourage you from using these services for cheating, but they are a great resource to help with writer’s block or to edit your papers.

It’s also helpful to try to perform some of the everyday tasks that this career entails. Would it be a suitable career for you?
