Upgrade Your Home Without Spending Too Much
This is a collaborative post by Ellie Jo.
We all go through a stage where we wish we could change so much about our homes. We see so many lovely interior designs that we wish we could put into our own home. So why not go and do them? Changing your home doesn’t have to put you into debt, and you can get it just the way you want it with a bit of time and effort. That is what we’re here to show you today. If you go through social media and see all the amazing designs there are available then we know you’ll be feeling a bit of jealousy. Some people just have that eye for detail and know exactly what to put in a room to make it pop. There are even some things that we’re going to discuss today that’ll mean you won’t even have to touch anything within your home! If you’re intrigued, then have a read of the tips below to upgrade your home without splashing too much cash.
Where To Shop
There are some truly amazing interior design shops dotted all around the world. Some of them will most likely be rather local to you. But when you’re thinking about changing the interior design of your home, it is important to consider other areas rather than just the mainstream shops that might be in your local area. For example, charity shops are a wonder that few people seem to explore. There’s always a bit of a stigma around purchasing things from there, most likely because they’re second hand. But you can get some truly wonderful pieces to put in your home without hardly spending a penny. You can also get specialized charity shops. So some will be purely for clothes, others will be for antiques, and others will be for just interior products. Try and head to a purely interior one if you can because the range that they’ll have will be so much more varied. Another place to try and look is the internet. There are plenty of specialized interior design stores that don’t actually have shops. So you’ll be able to find some unique items from all over the world. Again, you’ll most likely not have to even spend a penny! You can use inspiration from social media sites such as Pinterest and Instagram. A lot of the amazing designs you’ll see will include a link to where some of the products can be purchased from. If the links take you to a site that is more expensive, take the inspiration and find a cheaper alternative elsewhere.
Ideas To Use
So we’ve talked about where you can get some cheaper products from, and where you can view a few ideas, but now it is time to inspire you. We’ll start with the bedroom first. What we think works best is simplicity, and keeping the range of colors to a minimal. The bedroom should be an area of calm. The more you have in it, the more chaotic you’re going to feel. So, for the bed, a nice smaller frame with a slightly thicker headboard will do. The ones with space underneath for storage are the best, and wooden ones usually look the smartest. We won’t talk to you about colour schemes, but we do suggest you keep it neutral using two colors that contrast together. White with any other color usually works great. So white walls with turquoise features would look really lovely. It helps to keep the room fresh, modern, and that light splash of color will add a touch of summer to the room. Furnish it with either oak or white accessories. A bedside table is a must for just making the room easier, and a nice white or oak dresser will be perfect for getting ready in, filling the room out a little, and making it look nice. But other than that, we don’t recommend you fill your room with much more. It is then that it feels more cluttered and small. A final lovely little touch we have is indoor plants.
Can You Move?
This is a bit of a controversial one. But an easy way to upgrade your home without actually spending too much money is to just move! If you’re living in an older house, we guarantee you can get enough money from the sale to pay off the mortgage, remortgage and cover things such as solicitor bills. You can then look at the more modern properties available that will hardly need any work doing to them. For example, a penthouse is usually the things you see on the movies and feel you can only dream about. But they’re not. They’re dotted all over the world, and have some of the best interior designs there are available. A lot of them come with unparalleled views that will leave you in awe every day! If you know a house is more your style, then there are more of them being built every day that will provide you with extra space, stunning modern interiors, and actually a cheaper mortgage. So long as you get enough from your current house, affording a new build actually isn’t as hard as you may think. Plus, you’ll have the freedom of relocating to a better area, and any faults with the house will be covered by the building contractor for a certain amount of time.

Head Outdoors
It wouldn’t be right to talk about the home without talking about the home as a whole. The garden should be just as important to you as the interior is. When it comes to selling, it can influence the price massively. So, the first thing you need to do is make sure you have a spruce up. Make sure all of the grass is nice and trimmed and green. For the garden, the more color you have the better. Pick some of the most beautiful plants to brighten up the place. Then to make it a bit more sociable, you can think about getting a outdoor furniture set for when the warmer weather finally does come.
