Frying Up Nostalgia: Flaky Biscuit Donut Recipe and Family Bonding
Make homemade donuts with the help of flaky biscuits. Very simple donut recipe that I made when I was a kid with my mom. Nostalgia-filled cooking with timeless ingredients.
Ingredients
1canFlaky biscuits
1/2cupVegetable oilpour enough to cover 1/4 inch of your skillet or pan
1cupTable sugar
Instructions
Heat the Skillet: Start by heating a skillet with 1/4 inch of oil. This step is crucial for achieving that perfect golden crispness.
Prepare the Biscuits: Open the biscuit can and lay out the biscuits. Here's where the nostalgia kicks in – using a shot glass, create the iconic donut shape, complete with a hole in the center. If the biscuits resist, gently slide a butter knife to relieve the air pressure.
Test the Oil: To determine if the oil is ready, perform a water test. Wet your fingers and drop a tiny bit of water into the oil. The satisfying sizzle indicates you're ready to begin. Remember, safety first – just a drop of water, and keep your hands at a safe distance.
Fry to Perfection: Carefully drop the biscuit creations into the hot oil. After 30-60 seconds, the bottom should achieve a glorious golden hue.
Swiftly but safely flip them and let the other side cook for another 30-45 seconds. Vigilance is key – donuts can go from golden perfection to burnt in the blink of an eye.
Toppings Extravaganza: Once the donuts are fried to golden perfection, the real fun begins. Drop the donuts into a gallon-size ziplock bag with the table sugar in it. Shake several times to coat the donuts.
