How To Make Ice Cream Without An Ice Cream Maker
Updated from a few years ago
Our son just asked us if we could make ice cream. Sure thing I said. I went to a recipe that we already had in our Dessert category.
It’s so easy we made it with our 4 year old and twin 2 year old toddlers. They had fun making the ice cream with ingredients we already had in the house. I didn’t even need to make a run to the grocery store.
Ingredients For Ice Cream In A Bag Without An Ice Cream Maker:
- 1 tablespoon sugar
- 1/2 cup milk, half & half, or heavy cream You can even get away with 2%. For a dairy free alternative use almond milk, oat milk, etc. But the less fatty the milk the more you will end up with an icy gelato like dessert
- 1/4 teaspoon vanilla
- 6 tablespoons rock salt. Course Kosher salt also works
- 1 quart-size plastic food storage bag (e.g., Ziploc)
- 1 gallon-size plastic food storage bag
- Ice cubes
How To Make Homemade Ice Cream In A Bag:
- Fill the large bag half full of ice, and add the rock salt (or kosher salt. Any salt will do but the courser the better).
- Put milk (or creamer), vanilla, and sugar into the small bag, and seal it.
- Place the small bag inside the large one, and seal it again carefully.
- Shake until the mixture is ice cream, which takes about 5 minutes.
- Wipe off the top of the small bag, then open it carefully.
- Dish out the ice cream into bowls.
- Add toppings if wanted.
- Enjoy
