So if you want to know how can I kill weeds without using chemicals? Here’s the answer.
You already have it in your home, and you don’t need to rush out and buy it. It’s a butter knife.

Weeds. Should They Stay Or Should They Go?

While I know dandelions are great for bees, spreading pollen and helping beautiful flowers grow, I don’t like the sight of the broad leaves in the mulch of my garden beds.
In the past, I have used a DIY solution to kill weeds, but I wanted to ensure this year that I not only killed the weeds but removed them in hopes they didn’t return.
I have struggled to ensure that I get the entire root when I pull these from my garden beds.
I was going crazy trying to get these out a few weeks ago. I could have easily driven to the hardware store to purchase a tool to help me remove weeds, but I’m stubborn and creative, so I knew there had to be something around the house.
How To Remove Weeds Without Chemicals

I tried a letter opener, thinking the pointy tip would be useful when digging into the mulch and dirt, but it was too flimsy.
The next household item I tried was a butter knife, and it was perfect.
As parents of 3 little kids, Force of Nature is our go-to all purpose cleaner. It's nontoxic but is EPA approved for use against Covid-19.
We love vinegar, but we use Force of Nature every day.
The rounded, flat edge was perfect for sliding through the mulch and dirt.
Using my thumb and forefinger to grip the knife, I push the tip of the knife through the mulch and into the dirt at the base of the weed you’re trying to remove.
Once the knife is in, use your hand as leverage to lift the weed and its roots from the ground.

Once you feel the weed leaves and roots loosen, pull the knife from the ground, and the whole weed, including the roots, will be unearthed.
Why is it important to get the leaves and the root? Leaving the root behind increases the odds that the weed plant will return.
