Before today, I didn’t realize this was a problem.
Who Throws Underwear Away in a Public Restroom?
I was at Dicks Sporting Goods in Austin, Texas tonight and saw this sign on the little trash can in the restroom stall.
I have many questions about this sign I saw in Dicks Sporting Goods restroom in Austin.
- Who throws underwear away in a public restroom? Is that really a problem?
- What does calzones mean in Spanish? Is calzones Spanish for underwear? If it is, I’m going to have a hard time eating Calzones from now on. I guess I never knew that one. There was no reason for me to say the word underpants when I was in Costa Rica or Spain.
Now, I do have a few other questions about this sign. Why can you not put trash or underwear in the little trash cans in the bathroom? What do they do with the contents of these? I would hope they aren’t recycling them!
So, then that had me wondering about another question…
What is a sustainable way to get rid of old underwear?
Donate Old Underwear
Did you know you can donate old underwear? Many donation centers do not accept used underwear, though Planet Aid boxes will. You can donate used underwear as long as they are freshly washed.
Compost Old Underwear
You can compost old underwear that is 100% cotton or silk, once you remove the elastic. Learn how to compost old clothes here.
Use Old Underwear as Cleaning Rags
Old underpants make great cleaning cloths since they are gentle and scratch-free for delicate items.
