Discount and Loyalty Cards to Save Money

The cost of living has gotten so out of hand that many people struggle to pay for housing, utilities, healthcare, food, and other necessities. As you might imagine, that also makes it challenging to afford things you desire, like clothes, takeout, and entertainment.

While there are multiple ways for families to save on monthly expenses, many of these concepts are overlooked. Take discount cards and loyalty programs, for instance.

What Are Discount Cards And Loyalty Programs?

Discount cards and loyalty programs are money-saving opportunities offered by service providers nationwide. It’s a marketing and sales tool used by businesses to provide customers with affordable access to goods and services.

Each program is different. In general the consumer signs up and receives a card that automatically deducts percentages off and applies coupons to their final purchase cost. Another common loyalty card gives perks or freebies after so many uses. Some programs provide increased savings for long-term customers that make repeat purchases of goods and services.

Types Of Discount Card And Loyalty Programs

Believe it or not, there are discount cards and loyalty programs for just about anything you can imagine. Some of the most common include:

Grocery Stores

Most large chain grocery stores offer discount cards to their customers for increased savings. You can sign up online or in person at the customer service desk. You’ll receive a card for your wallet and a smaller one for your keychain. The barcode is tied to your account that tracks your transactions.

You can get exclusive discounts digital coupons and earn points towards big-ticket items around the holidays like turkey and ham. You can use your grocery store discount card along with printable coupons and codes found in the local paper or online.

Prescriptions

The cost of healthcare continues to rise, including the expense of prescription medication. Many pharmacies and independent pharmaceutical companies want to help patients acquire the medicine they need by lowering those costs.

A discount card for prescriptions is free to apply for and can be used at qualifying pharmacies nationwide. You could receive as much as 65% off your medications and other medical supplies by showing your card or providing the coupon code from your app.

Restaurants

The average household spends thousands of dollars a year on takeout from local restaurants, coffee shops, delis, and other locations. While it’s nice to treat yourself occasionally, the costs can get out of hand. Fortunately, many major brands offer loyalty programs to their target audience.

You simply sign up for the card, and you can receive offers ranging from cash off your first order to free delivery. Some loyalty programs will even allow customers to get free products after their first few purchases.

Entertainment

While covering the cost of living is the most important priority; sometimes you want to have fun with the people you love. Unfortunately, many entertainment sources are expensive. That’s where signing up for discount cards or rewards programs can come in handy. For example, if you enjoy going to the movies, AMC has a loyalty program that allows members to get discounts on tickets, free admission, and even free refreshments. Premium members can even get preferential treatment that includes skipping the line for ticket and refreshment purchases.

Pet Products

Affording food and other necessities for pets is another expense that can get out of hand if you’re on a tight budget. The good news is that pet parents can acquire everything their babies need without breaking the bank. Pet companies like PetSmart, Petco, Chewy, and others offer discount programs for loyal customers. You can get everything from toys to medications at an affordable rate.
