So let me walk you through exactly how to replace the battery in the MyQ Remote Garage Door Sensors, both the black and white models.

What Kind of Battery Does the MyQ Garage Door Sensor Use?

First things first: the MyQ Remote Garage Door Sensors use a CR2450 button battery. It’s a pretty standard battery, but you’ll want to make sure you’ve got a fresh one ready to go before you pop the sensor open.

Let’s start with the black sensor, officially the Chamberlain myQ-G0302 myQ-GO302 Smart Garage Hub Add-On Door Sensor. It looks tricky at first glance, but trust me, it’s super easy once you know the trick.

1. Locate the Ridge at the Top of the Sensor

Look closely at the black sensor. On the top edge, you’ll see a small ridge, that’s your key to opening it.

2. Press Down Firmly on the Ridge

Here’s where I messed up at first. Instead of prying, simply press down on that ridge. No need to force it, it’s designed to pop open easily.

3. Pop Open the Sensor

Once you press, the sensor casing will neatly pop apart. No tools, no prying, no damage.

4. Slide Out the Old Battery

Carefully remove the old battery. It should slide right out.

5. Insert the New Battery (Positive Side Up)

Take your new battery and insert it positive (+) side up. This is crucial, otherwise, it won’t power up.

6. Snap the Sensor Back Together

Line up the two halves of the sensor and snap it back together. Easy as that!

How to Replace Battery in White Chamberlain MYQ-G0402 Garage Door Sensor

Now, if you’ve got the white sensor (officially the Chamberlain MYQ-G0402 Garage-Door-Sensors, White), the process is just slightly different. This one does require a tool, but only a little nudge.

1. Locate the Slot on the Side of the Sensor

You’ll notice a small slot on the edge of the white sensor. That’s where you’ll insert your tool.

2. Use a Flat Head Screwdriver

Grab a flat head screwdriver, any small one will do. No need to get heavy-handed.

3. Gently Twist the Screwdriver

Insert the screwdriver into the slot and gently twist. It won’t take much force. The sensor cover will pop open smoothly.

4. Remove the Old Battery

Once open, slide out the old battery. Again, super straightforward.

5. Install the New Battery (Positive Side Up)
