New Cheddar’s Menu Review – Dining Out for a Family on a Budget
Cheddar’s Menu Prices and New Options
It had been a little while since we were last at Cheddar’s, and we noticed there were several new items on the Cheddar’s menu. The last time we had a family dinner at Cheddar’s, we had a great experience.
If you look at the menu in the pictures above, you’ll see that they have a large variety of items and the prices are very affordable.
Compared to other homestyle restaurants that serve quality steaks and seafood, the pricing seems to be on the low end.
For example, a 14-ounce Ribeye is $21.29 the Grilled Salmon is $16.49. Cheddar’s is a great restaurant for a family on a budget.
New Appetizers.
In the summer of 2024, after a lot of demand, Cheddar’s has brought back their amazing hand battered Onion Rings. Not only have the onion rings come back to the menu, but they’re back without a price increase. An order- which is about 12 onion rings will cost about $7.99.
The onion rings are served with 2 dipping sauces, and are full of flavor, with a crispy batter.

The Trio Sampler since it has something for everyone. This app includes chicken tenders and dipping sauces, santé fe spinach artichoke dip, and homemade queso and chips.
Kids Meals Options and Reviews
Our kids each ordered their own menu item from the kids meals. I will say the portions were huge, enough for 2-3 meals for our 4 year old daughters. One order the penne pasta with Alfredo sauce. This was served with a slice of garlic bread.
Our other daughter (also 4) ordered the kids chicken tenders and fries. This dish was served with 3 full sized chicken tenders, and a full order a fries. This was enough for 2 meals for her as well.
Our 7 year old son (who is going through a growth spurt) ordered the kids cheese burger and fries. He ate all except 2 bites of his burger, and had enough fries for lunch the next day.
Each kids meal was $7.99 and came with a soft drink, milk, or juice. We opted not to have the offered drinks, and they each just had water, which was served in a cup with a lid, and ice cold.
Full Size Menu items
For lunch and dinner, there lots of menu items to choose from including Crispy Blackened Salmon Salad, Chicken Tender Parmesan, Better Than Mom’s Meatloaf, a 14-ounce Ribeye, and full size salads, and a variety of comfort foods and sandwiches.
In the past we have ordered, Blackened Salmon and Shrimp, 14-ounce Ribeye, and 8-ounce Sirloin Steak. Each of these meals were prepared excellently, and tasted amazing.
Everything was very tasty, and some dishes were served with honey-buttery croissants. My kids at all their steak and most of the sides. The meat and fish were cooked to our liking.
On our most recent visit to Cheddar’s Scratch Kitchen I ordered the lunch sized Philly Cheesesteak Hoagie. This came with an optional side, which I decided on the fries. Looking back, I should have opted for a different side, knowing that 2 of our kids meals came with fries.
The cheesesteak sandwich, as with the kids meals ended up being 2 meals for me. The meat was tender and bursting with flavor. The ratio of meat to peppers, mushrooms and cheese was perfect. The hoagie roll was soft, and not overly toasted. The bread soaked up the juices from the sandwich perfectly. I was very happy with my menu selection.
My husband opted to order from the comfort foods, and selected the Country Fried Chicken, with gravy (sorry, we forgot a photo.) He ordered the double, which came with two sides. He decided on the loaded baked potato and rice. We ended up getting fries, which was no big deal because they were delicious- and reheated well in the air fryer. This meal actually ended up being so much food that after he ate his fill, there was still enough left over for two more meals.
Our waiter was terrific. She was attentive and helpful and recommended menu items for us.
Desserts on the Menu
Even though everything sounded delicious, on this trip to Cheddar’s we didn’t have any room left in our bellies for dessert. So we opted to skip. But, in the past we have selected the below items. I don’t think any of them are still on the menu, but wanted to leave the photos and details in this post to give you an idea of what you could expect if you decided to order dessert on your next visit.
We were not disappointed by our previous dessert choices. All of the desserts were delicious, though I would say my favorite was the Hot Fudge Cake Sundae. Although, the other two were also very tasty.

Our Family Night at Cheddar’s Scratch Kitchen in South Austin

Between our family, and the previous owner of the site Rachel there have been many visits to Cheddar’s.
Each time we’ve visited, the food, service and company have all been amazing.
Review Of Appetizers at Cheddar’s
Rachel’s family and started with a few of the recommended appetizers – the spinach artichoke dip and onion rings. You should have seen my kids’ faces when they brought out the tower of onion rings!
We tried to recreate their expressions in the pictures below. Not only did the appetizers look pretty, but they also tasted great as well.
Cheddar’s Main Dishes Reviews

Next, Rachel’s family had to choose our main dishes. That was the hardest part for me. There were so many options of Cheddar’s made-from-scratch dishes.
Rachel wavered between a few of the seafood dishes, the house smoked baby back ribs, and New Orleans Pasta. Ultimately, she went with the Grilled Tilapia and Shrimp W/ Mango Salsa and was quite happy with her choice.
The rest of my group chose some other menu items including the chicken tenders, shrimp, ribs, and more. Everyone loved their meals and with the big portion sizes, most of us were able to bring home leftovers. We had to make sure to leave some room for dessert.
Review Of The Desserts at Cheddar’s Scratch Kitchen
The below is typed and posted by Rachel, the previous owner of Cha Ching Queen. I have decided to leave her thoughts here so you can get an idea of the dessert options. Our family doesn’t often order or partake in desserts.
Often on date nights, Rachel and her husband struggle to find a good place for dessert near the house. Well, it looks like we won’t be having trouble anymore.
The selection of desserts at Cheddar’s again made it hard to choose one. So, we ended up ordering a few for our table to share. Our favorite dessert at Cheddar’s was the Cheddar’s Legendary Monster Cookie.
This one is a scratch-made chocolate chip cookie, topped with vanilla ice cream, homemade hot fudge, whipped cream, chopped nuts and a cherry – baked to order. It takes a few extra minutes than the other desserts, but it’s definitely worth the wait.
A Future Visit to Cheddar’s Scratch Kitchen?
My kids are already asking when we can go back to Cheddar’s Scratch Kitchen. We had a great experience with attentive and friendly staff, a variety of food options, and delicious food.
