My family had dinner at Cheddar’s Scratch Kitchen at the Shops at Arbor Trails in South Austin.
As usual, we had a busy weekend and we were all hungry.
Earlier in the day, my husband and I had taken the dog for a long walk and my son had a flag football game.

New Cheddar’s Menu Review – Dining Out for a Family on a Budget
Cheddar’s Menu Prices and New Options
It had been a little while since we were last at Cheddar’s, and we noticed there were several new items on the Cheddar’s menu. The last time we had a family dinner at Cheddar’s, we had a great experience.
If you look at the menu in the pictures above, you’ll see that they have a large variety of items and the prices are pretty good too.
Compared to comparable restaurants that serve quality steaks and seafood, the pricing seems to be on the low end.
For example, a 14-ounce Ribeye is $16.99 the Grilled Salmon is $11.99. This would be a good restaurant for a family on a budget.
Some new Cheddar’s appetizers include Kickin’ Tenders with your choice of house-made Buffalo or Honey Hot sauce, and a Cheddar’s Trio Sampler with chicken tenders, queso, spinach dip, salsa, and chips.
All the good you can eat! Crush your fruit + veg goals with high-quality, low-maintenance, really good food—built on organic ingredients.
Also new is the Texas Sized Nachos. These were just three of the appetizer choices on the menu.
We went with the Trio Sampler since it has something for everyone. My boys are not fans of dips, but they love chicken tenders.
Everything was good and we even got a refill of chips.
For dinner, there were also lots of new menu items to choose from including Crispy Chicken Tender Noodle Soup, Blackened Salmon Salad, Chicken Tender Parmesan, Better Than Mom’s Meatloaf, a 14-ounce Ribeye, and Blackened Salmon and Shrimp.
We got a variety of entrees for the table, mostly from the new menu items. Since I was training for a half-marathon, I was trying to eat healthier, so I ordered the Blackened Salmon Salad.
We also ordered the Crispy Chicken Tender Noodle Soup, Blackened Salmon and Shrimp, 14-ounce Ribeye, and 8-ounce Sirloin Steak.
Everything was very tasty, and some dishes were served with honey-buttery croissants. My kids at all their steak and most of the sides. The meat and fish were cooked to our liking.
Our waiter, David, was terrific. He was attentive and helpful and recommended menu items for us.
Desserts on the New Menu
When we thought we couldn’t eat anything else, David came to the table with the Cheddar’s dessert menu. We had to at least taste some of the new dessert items, right?
Everything sounded delicious. We narrowed it down to three desserts for the table – the Apple Crisp a la Mode, the Chocolate Raspberry Mini Cake, and the Hot Fudge Cake Sundae.
We were not disappointed by our choices. All of the desserts were delicious, though I would say my favorite was the Hot Fudge Cake Sundae. Although, the other two were also very tasty.

Our Family Night at Cheddar’s Scratch Kitchen in South Austin
On a Sunday night a few weeks ago, we stayed close to home and went out to eat at the Cheddar’s Scratch Kitchen in South Austin. After a busy weekend, we were all pretty hungry and excited to try some of the new Cheddars menu items along with long-standing popular dishes.
Review Of Appetizers at Cheddar’s
My family and I started with a few of the recommended appetizers – the spinach artichoke dip and onion rings. You should have seen my kids’ faces when they brought out the tower of onion rings!
We tried to recreate their expressions in the pictures below. Not only did the appetizers look pretty, but they also tasted great as well.
Cheddar’s Main Dishes Reviews
Next, we had to choose our main dishes. That was the hardest part for me. There were so many options of Cheddar’s made-from-scratch dishes.
I wavered between a few of the seafood dishes, the house smoked baby back ribs, and New Orleans Pasta. Ultimately, I went with the Grilled Tilapia and Shrimp W/ Mango Salsa and was quite happy with my choice.
The rest of my group chose some other menu items including the chicken tenders, shrimp, ribs, and more. Everyone loved their meals and with the big portion sizes, most of us were able to bring home leftovers. We had to make sure to leave some room for dessert.
Review Of The Desserts at Cheddar’s Scratch Kitchen
Often on date nights, my husband and I struggle to find a good place for dessert near the house. Well, it looks like we won’t be having trouble anymore.
The selection of desserts at Cheddar’s again made it hard to choose one. So, we ended up ordering a few for our table to share. Our favorite dessert at Cheddar’s was the Cheddar’s Legendary Monster Cookie.
This one is a scratch-made chocolate chip cookie, topped with vanilla ice cream, homemade hot fudge, whipped cream, chopped nuts and a cherry – baked to order. It takes a few extra minutes than the other desserts, but it’s definitely worth the wait.
A Future Visit to Cheddar’s Scratch Kitchen?
My kids are already asking when we can go back to Cheddar’s Scratch Kitchen. We had a great experience with attentive and friendly staff, a variety of food options, and delicious food.
I would recommend checking out your local Cheddar’s Scratch Kitchen for made-from-scratch meals at affordable prices.
