How To Make

Using the typical French Toast ingredients, you will add a couple of extra steps to create a delicious and buttery breakfast.

You will start with eggs, the bread of your choosing, I like to use Brioche, I also have a great recipe for Challah which also makes a great French Toast. Heavy Cream- you can use milk if you prefer, I just think cream makes for a better French Toast. Cinnamon, Nutmeg, and Vanilla, and butter.

Using a rolling pin to roll bread

Where traditional French Toast has you dredging the bread in your egg, cream and spice mixture, this recipe starts slightly different. You will begin by rolling the bread flat with a rolling pin. This makes it easier to roll before you cook.

I love to put fun twists on traditional breakfasts. If you have a waffle iron, you will love French Toast Waffles. Check out the recipe here.

Once you have rolled each of your slices of bread flat, use a knife to cut off the crust edges.

While this step isn’t entirely necessary, it does make for a prettier end product. If you are making these for a quick breakfast, and you want to save time, you can skip this step.

Once you have cut the ends of each slice of bread, in a small dish mix 2-6 tablespoons of softened butter with 1 teaspoon of cinnamon. You can adjust this mix to your taste. The more slices of bread you have, the more butter and cinnamon you will want.

Once you have mixed the butter and cinnamon, spread the mixture onto each slice of bread. You will want to spread to the edges, as the mixture will serve as a means to keep the bread rolled tight.

Three rolled slices of bread are on a cutting board, with a dish of spread and a butter box nearby.

Next, roll each slice of bread tightly. Don’t worry if some of the butter mix slips out of the ends, it will absorb when dredged, which is the next step.

Dredging French Toast Roll Ups

Once you have rolled your slices of bread into rolls, dredge each in your favorite egg mix.

For 6 rolls, I use 2 eggs, a splash of cream, nutmeg, cinnamon, and vanilla. There is no wrong way to make French Toast.

This combo make gooey, warm French toast rolls. You can serve them sprinkled with powdered sugar with your favorite syrup, and fresh fruit.
